I am primarily a psychodynamic therapist, which means that I will look at your past experiences to help you understand your current challenges. Depending on your goals for therapy and how I can best help you, I may combine other therapy styles with my psychodynamic approach. Insight/ awareness, healing, and the therapeutic relationship are the cornerstones of change.
As a therapist, I:
- Take an active role in the therapy process
- Am authentic
- Help you gain insight into behaviors and patterns in your life
- Present you with ideas about yourself that may be new
- Am very attentive and actively listen
- Have a very calm presence
- Make your safety a priority- we talk about your life at your pace
- Believe in a collaborative approach- we will work together to move toward progress
- Value your strengths and innate desire to live life to its fullest
- Will be responsive to your needs, respectful, and present for you
- Believe that you know yourself better than anyone
- Am committed to our work together
- Have curiosity about who you truly are
- Believe in the power of relationships- (with family, friends, partner, therapist)
- Help people feel at ease
- Invite questions about therapy
My hope is to empower you to make long lasting change. For example, there is value in solving the stress of daily life but peace in discovering where and how the stress evolved over time. When you discover the origin of stress, are willing to experience emotions, and are open to the process of therapy, you can release stress and move forward. In addition, when stress appears in the future, you will be able to use different coping skills, utilize your strengths, and will be more equipped to deal with difficult moments.
